Spanish police announced on Tuesday, April 1, 2026, the dismantling of a sophisticated, multi-level tunnel used to smuggle hashish from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. The operation, named 'Túnel 2026', was carried out by the National Police in collaboration with the Civil Guard.

The tunnel, approximately 200 meters long and equipped with lighting and ventilation systems, originated in a villa in the Moroccan town of Castillejos (Fnideq) and ended in a warehouse in Ceuta. Authorities described it as one of the most complex structures of its kind discovered in recent years, featuring multiple levels and reinforced walls.

During the operation, police arrested 12 individuals and seized over 1,300 kilograms of hashish. The investigation remains ongoing to identify other members of the criminal network responsible for the tunnel's construction and operation.

The discovery highlights the ongoing challenges of drug trafficking across the Strait of Gibraltar, a key route for narcotics entering Europe from North Africa. Spanish and Moroccan authorities continue to cooperate on cross-border security operations.
