Spanish police have dismantled a sophisticated drug trafficking tunnel connecting Morocco to Spain and seized 17 tonnes of hashish. The operation, announced by Spain's National Police and Civil Guard, targeted a criminal organization that had constructed the 500-meter-long passage.

The tunnel originated in a warehouse in the Moroccan coastal town of Castillejos, near the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. It emerged inside another warehouse in the Spanish territory, equipped with rails and wagons to transport the drugs. Authorities described it as one of the most complex subterranean passages ever found in the region.

In coordinated raids, police arrested 17 suspects in Spain and seized the massive cache of hashish, along with vehicles, cash, and communications equipment. The investigation, which involved international cooperation, highlights the ongoing challenge of combating drug smuggling across the Strait of Gibraltar.

This discovery follows other significant tunnel finds in recent years used to bypass border security between North Africa and Spanish territories. Authorities continue to invest in technology and intelligence to detect and disrupt such infrastructure.
