Morocco is bracing for a new heatwave from Tuesday to Thursday, with temperatures expected to reach up to 47°C in several provinces, according to an alert bulletin from the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
The DGM has placed several provinces under orange or red vigilance, including Tata, Assa-Zag, and Es-Semara, where maximum temperatures could hit 47°C. Other provinces such as Ouarzazate, Errachidia, and Zagora are also expected to see extreme heat, with temperatures ranging between 44°C and 46°C.
The heatwave is attributed to a hot air mass from the south, which is typical for this time of year but has been more intense in recent years. The DGM advises residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, and check on vulnerable individuals.
Local authorities have been urged to take precautionary measures, including opening cooling centers and ensuring water supply in affected areas. The heatwave is expected to ease by Friday as a slight drop in temperatures is forecast.
