The price hike, effective immediately, has led to long queues at petrol stations in cities like Rabat and Casablanca as motorists sought to fill their tanks before the increase. The state-regulated prices for gasoline and diesel have risen by several dirhams per liter, impacting transportation and goods costs nationwide.
Consumer associations and opposition parties have criticized the move, warning of its inflationary effect on essential goods and services.
