Ivory Coast has officially opened its first public DNA analysis laboratory. The facility, named the National Center for Genetics and Genomics (CNGG), is located within the Vitib technological hub in Grand-Bassam.
The laboratory was inaugurated by Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé on April 11, 2026. The center is equipped to conduct genetic analyses for criminal investigations, paternity tests, and medical research, including studies on genetic diseases and cancers.
According to official statements, the establishment of the CNGG aims to reduce the country's dependence on foreign laboratories for genetic testing, which has historically caused delays and increased costs for judicial and medical procedures. The government stated the lab will enhance the efficiency of the justice system and contribute to public health advancements.
The project represents a significant investment in national scientific infrastructure and is expected to serve as a regional reference center for genetic expertise in West Africa.
