Approximately 40,000 Moroccan residents in Spain are facing difficulties converting their Moroccan driving licenses to Spanish ones, according to reports from Spanish media. The issue stems from a stalled bilateral agreement between Spain and Morocco that would allow for the mutual recognition of driving licenses.
Without this agreement, Moroccan drivers must retake both the theoretical and practical driving tests in Spain, a process that can be costly and time-consuming. Many have been unable to drive legally, affecting their ability to work and access essential services.
The Spanish government has acknowledged the problem but negotiations with Morocco have not yet produced a resolution. The Moroccan community in Spain, one of the largest immigrant groups, has called for expedited talks to resolve the matter.
