Theodore Datouo has been elected as the new President of the National Assembly of Cameroon. The election took place during the inaugural session of the new parliamentary term following the February 2025 legislative elections.

Datouo, a long-serving member of the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (RDPC), succeeds Cavayé Yéguié Djibril, who held the position for over three decades. The transition marks a significant generational shift in the country's legislative leadership.

The new Assembly President is a former Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Public Contracts. His election follows the RDPC's maintained majority in the National Assembly after the recent polls.

Political analysts view the appointment as part of a broader renewal within Cameroon's governing institutions, though the ruling party's dominance continues. The role of the National Assembly President is largely ceremonial, with executive power concentrated in the presidency.
