The remains of a U.S. soldier who went missing during military exercises in Morocco have been recovered in the Atlantic Ocean, the U.S. Army announced on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
The soldier, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, disappeared on May 7 during training operations off the coast of Casablanca. Search efforts involving U.S. and Moroccan naval and air assets located the remains on May 10.
The cause of death is under investigation, but initial reports suggest an accidental drowning. The soldier was part of a joint exercise with Moroccan forces.
U.S. Army Africa officials expressed condolences to the family and thanked Moroccan authorities for their assistance in the search.
