The United Nations has warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could push an additional 45 million people into acute hunger by June 2026. This would significantly worsen the global food security crisis, driving worldwide numbers to a devastating new high.

The warning was issued by the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in a joint report. The conflict has severely disrupted agricultural production, supply chains, and humanitarian access in the region, creating a rapid escalation in food insecurity.

"We are facing a perfect storm," a UN spokesperson stated. "Prolonged hostilities are crippling local economies and blocking aid, putting millions at immediate risk of starvation." The report emphasizes that an urgent ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian corridors are critical to preventing a full-scale famine.

This projected increase comes on top of existing high levels of hunger driven by climate shocks and economic instability in other parts of the world. The UN agencies are calling for immediate international funding and diplomatic action to avert the worst outcomes.
