Assan Aluminyum, a subsidiary of the Turkish conglomerate Kibar Holding, has acquired the former Aleris aluminum rolling mill in Fairmont, West Virginia. The facility has been vacant since Aleris closed it in 2020, resulting in the loss of over 100 jobs.
The acquisition was finalized in late 2025. Assan Aluminyum has stated its intention to invest in the site to produce aluminum for the automotive and construction industries, though a specific timeline for reopening has not been announced.
Local and state officials have welcomed the purchase as a potential source of future employment for the region. The deal represents a significant foreign investment in West Virginia's industrial sector.
