Three people were killed and one seriously injured on Saturday when their rental car veered off the road on a perilous curve connecting the towns of Anergui and Tagleft in central Morocco. The victims were Moroccan workers residing in Agadir who had rented the vehicle to travel home for the Eid al-Adha holiday.
According to local authorities, the accident occurred on a winding mountain road in the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region. The driver lost control of the vehicle in a sharp bend, causing it to plunge into a ravine. Emergency services rushed to the scene and transported the injured survivor to a nearby hospital.
Road safety remains a serious concern in Morocco, particularly during holiday periods when traffic increases significantly. The country recorded over 3,000 road fatalities in 2025, according to the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA). Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially on rural and mountainous routes.
An investigation has been opened to determine the exact cause of the crash, though initial reports suggest excessive speed may have been a factor. The deceased have been identified as three men in their 30s, all originally from the Azilal province.
