The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill to extend the implementation period for the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act. The new deadline is June 30, 2026, moving it from the original date of March 31, 2026.
The extension followed a clause-by-clause consideration of the amendment bill on the floor of the Senate. The move is intended to allow for the full utilization of allocated capital funds for ongoing projects across the country.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio emphasized that the extension was necessary to ensure the effective completion of critical infrastructure projects. The bill has been forwarded to the House of Representatives for concurrence before being sent to the President for assent.
