The body of a second U.S. soldier who went missing during an international military exercise in Morocco has been found, according to U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). The soldier was located in a coastal cave near the site of the exercise.
The two soldiers, whose names have not been released pending notification of next of kin, disappeared on May 2, 2026, while participating in a multinational training event. The body of the first soldier was recovered earlier this week.
Search and rescue teams, including Moroccan and U.S. personnel, conducted extensive operations along the coastline. The cause of death for both soldiers is under investigation, but initial reports suggest accidental drowning or a fall.
AFRICOM expressed condolences to the families and emphasized that the incident is being thoroughly reviewed. The exercise, which involved multiple nations, has been temporarily paused.
