Search operations resumed on Saturday for the bodies of four Italian scuba divers who drowned while exploring a deep underwater cave in the Maldives, according to local authorities.
The divers, part of a group exploring a cave system near the island of Fuvahmulah, went missing on May 13. Their bodies were located but could not be recovered immediately due to the depth and complexity of the cave.
Rough weather on Friday forced a temporary suspension of the high-risk recovery operation, which involves specialized deep-sea divers. The Maldivian police and coast guard are coordinating the effort.
The Italian embassy in Sri Lanka, which covers the Maldives, is providing consular assistance to the families of the victims. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
