Buffalo Sabres general manager Jarmo Kekalainen has had a busy week, making several roster moves to reshape the team. According to a report from The Athletic's John Vogl on June 24, 2026, Kekalainen stated he is 'far from done' in his efforts to improve the squad.
Kekalainen, who took over as Sabres GM in April 2025, has been active in the trade market and free agency. The team recently acquired forward Alex Tuch from the Vegas Golden Knights in a blockbuster trade involving Jack Eichel, and has signed several depth players to one-year contracts.
'We're not finished yet,' Kekalainen said in an interview with WGR 550. 'We have a plan, and we're executing it step by step. There are still areas we need to address, and we'll continue to explore all options.'
The Sabres have missed the playoffs for 14 consecutive seasons, the longest active drought in the NHL. Kekalainen's moves are aimed at ending that streak and building a competitive roster for the 2026-27 season.
