MANILA, Philippines β The Philippine National Police (PNP) has been placed on alert for the possible effects of Typhoon Francisco (international name: Mekkhala) as it approaches the country, according to a statement released on June 22, 2026.
PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil ordered all police units to observe disaster response protocols and coordinate with local government units and other agencies. βPolice units on the ground observe disaster response protocol, and coordinate with local government units and other agencies,β Marbil said in a statement.
As of the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon Francisco was last tracked east of Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 160 km/h. The typhoon is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds to several regions, including Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region.
The PNP has pre-positioned rescue equipment and personnel in vulnerable areas. The public is advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the typhoon's passage.
