Philippe Lalliot has been officially appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Kingdom of Morocco, according to a decree published in the French Official Journal. The appointment was confirmed by a presidential decree dated May 19, 2026.
Lalliot, a seasoned diplomat, previously served as France's ambassador to several countries, including a recent role as ambassador to Algeria. His appointment to Morocco comes at a time of strengthening bilateral relations between France and Morocco.
The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has not yet issued a separate statement on the appointment, but the official publication confirms the transition. Lalliot replaces Christophe Lecourtier, who had held the post since 2020.
This diplomatic move is seen as part of France's ongoing efforts to maintain strong ties with North African nations, particularly Morocco, which is a key partner in trade, security, and cultural exchanges.
