Omar Seghrouchni, President of Morocco's National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP), emphasized that data protection is no longer solely a legal or technical matter but a strategic foundation for digital trust. He made these remarks during a recent conference on digital transformation and data governance.
Seghrouchni highlighted the CNDP's role in ensuring compliance with Morocco's Law 09-08 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data. He noted that the commission has been actively working to raise awareness among both public and private sector entities about their obligations under the law.
The CNDP president also stressed the importance of international cooperation in data protection, particularly in the context of cross-border data flows. He called for harmonized standards to facilitate secure data exchanges while respecting privacy rights.
Seghrouchni's comments come as Morocco continues to strengthen its digital infrastructure and regulatory framework, aiming to position itself as a regional hub for digital innovation. The CNDP has been instrumental in advising on data protection aspects of various national digital initiatives.
