NASA astronaut Christina Koch has described her study abroad experience in Ghana as life-changing, saying it shaped her global perspective. Koch studied at the University of Ghana, where she gained cultural and academic exposure that influenced her outlook on the world.
Koch, who set a record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman at 328 days, has often credited her international experiences with preparing her for the challenges of space exploration. She is currently assigned to NASA's Artemis II mission, which aims to send astronauts around the Moon.
In remarks about her time in Ghana, Koch emphasized the importance of cross-cultural learning. 'My study abroad in Ghana was life-changing,' she said, highlighting how the experience broadened her understanding of global cooperation and human resilience.
Koch's comments come as NASA continues to promote diversity and international collaboration in its astronaut corps. The Artemis II mission, scheduled for no earlier than 2025, will be the first crewed flight of the Orion spacecraft and will include Koch as a mission specialist.
