Morocco's High Commission for Planning (HCP) has launched a new national employment survey, aiming to provide more accurate and timely data on the country's labor market. The survey, which began in early 2026, replaces the previous quarterly format with a continuous monthly data collection system.
According to HCP officials, the new approach is designed to capture seasonal variations and informal employment more effectively. The survey covers a sample of 90,000 households across all regions of Morocco, using both face-to-face interviews and digital tools.
Initial results from the first quarter of 2026 show an unemployment rate of 13.7%, compared to 13.0% in the same period of 2025. The HCP attributes the slight increase to improved data collection methods that better capture job seekers in rural areas.
The revamped survey is part of broader efforts to modernize Morocco's statistical system, supported by international partners including the World Bank and the African Development Bank. The HCP plans to publish monthly employment indicators starting in June 2026.
