Morocco has implemented a new decree, No. 2.22.652, to strengthen the asset declaration system for public officials and elected representatives. The measure, published in the Official Bulletin in late 2025, aims to enhance transparency and combat corruption within public administration.
The updated framework mandates more frequent and detailed declarations of assets and interests. It expands the categories of persons required to declare and introduces stricter verification procedures by the National Authority for Probity, Prevention, and the Fight against Corruption (INPPLC).
Authorities state the reform seeks to close loopholes and end opaque practices in the management of public officials' wealth. The move is part of broader governance reforms advocated for by civil society and international partners to ensure greater accountability.
Failure to comply with the new declaration obligations can result in administrative sanctions and, in cases of illicit enrichment, criminal prosecution. The government asserts these steps are crucial for reinforcing public trust and integrity in institutions.
