Morocco's national weather service (Direction Générale de la Météorologie) has issued a weather alert for thunderstorms and hot temperatures from Friday, August 14, to Saturday, August 15, 2026, affecting several regions of the country.
The alert covers provinces including Al Haouz, Azilal, Beni Mellal, and others in the Atlas Mountains and nearby areas. Forecasts indicate moderate to locally strong thunderstorms accompanied by hail and gusty winds, with rainfall amounts potentially reaching 20-30 mm in some localities.
In addition, a heatwave is expected in the southern and central regions, with maximum temperatures ranging from 38°C to 42°C in provinces such as Tata, Zagora, Errachidia, and Ouarzazate.
The weather service advises residents and travelers to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone areas and during outdoor activities. Authorities recommend staying informed of updates and following safety instructions.
