Morocco is intensifying efforts to channel the financial resources of its diaspora, estimated at 5 million people, into national development projects. The government has unveiled a series of measures, including tax incentives and simplified administrative procedures, to encourage Moroccans living abroad to invest in key sectors such as real estate, tourism, and technology.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, remittances from the Moroccan diaspora reached $11.2 billion in 2025, representing a significant source of foreign currency. The new strategy aims to transform these flows into long-term productive investments, creating jobs and fostering innovation.
Key initiatives include the creation of a dedicated online platform to connect diaspora investors with local opportunities, and the establishment of a 'one-stop shop' to streamline business registration and licensing. The government has also pledged to strengthen property rights and improve the overall business climate.
Economic analysts note that while the potential is substantial, success will depend on effective implementation and addressing concerns about bureaucracy and corruption. The diaspora has historically been cautious, preferring to invest in real estate rather than riskier ventures.
