Morocco highlighted its approach based on leadership by example for the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration during a UN event in New York on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The compact was adopted in Marrakech in 2018.
The event, organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), focused on sharing best practices and challenges in implementing the compact. Morocco's delegation emphasized the country's efforts in regularizing migrants, integrating them into the labor market, and providing access to education and healthcare.
According to the IOM, Morocco has developed a national strategy on migration that aligns with the compact's objectives. The country has also established mechanisms for migrant protection and facilitated voluntary return programs.
The presentation comes as part of ongoing global efforts to assess progress on the compact, which was adopted by 152 countries. Morocco's role as a host country for the adoption conference has positioned it as a key player in migration governance.
