Morocco's high-speed rail project connecting Marrakech to Agadir has reached a key milestone. The preliminary and execution studies for this second phase of the country's high-speed line (LGV) have been finalized, according to the Minister of Transport and Logistics, announced on Monday, May 25, 2026, in Rabat.
The project, estimated at 55 billion Moroccan dirhams (approximately $5.5 billion), is now seeking financing. The line would extend the existing high-speed service from Tangier to Casablanca and Marrakech, further down the Atlantic coast to the tourist city of Agadir.
No specific timeline for construction or completion has been provided. The Moroccan government is expected to seek both public and private investment for the project, which aims to reduce travel time between Marrakech and Agadir from over three hours by car to under one hour by train.
