According to data from Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE), mixed marriages between Spanish nationals and foreigners have been increasing. Between 2010 and 2024, Moroccan men were the second most common foreign nationality in these unions, following Romanians.
The INE report shows that in 2024, 18.5% of all marriages in Spain were between a Spanish and a foreign national. Among foreign grooms, Moroccans represented 12.3% of the total, while Romanian women were the most common foreign brides at 15.1%.
Experts attribute this trend to the large Moroccan diaspora in Spain, which numbers over 900,000 people, and cultural proximity. The data does not specify the gender breakdown for Moroccan nationals, but overall, foreign grooms are more likely to marry Spanish women than foreign brides are to marry Spanish men.
