Marrakech-Menara Airport is undergoing a significant modernization program aimed at increasing its capacity to handle up to 14 million passengers annually by 2030, according to the Moroccan National Airports Office (ONDA). The project includes the construction of a new terminal and the expansion of existing facilities.
As of June 2026, work is progressing on schedule, with the new terminal expected to be operational by 2028. The expansion also involves upgrading runways and taxiways to accommodate larger aircraft, such as the Airbus A380.
The modernization is part of Morocco's broader strategy to boost tourism, which is a key economic sector. Marrakech, a major tourist destination, saw over 3 million passengers in 2023, and the airport's capacity is being stretched.
ONDA has not disclosed the total investment cost, but similar projects in Morocco have ranged from $500 million to $1 billion. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs during construction and operation.
