IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir stated on Wednesday that there is 'no ceasefire' in southern Lebanon, as Israeli forces and Hezbollah continue to exchange fire despite a truce that has been in place for nearly two weeks. Zamir made the remarks during a visit to troops stationed in the area.
The truce, brokered by the United States and France, began on November 27, 2024, but has been repeatedly violated by both sides. Hezbollah has launched rockets into northern Israel, while the IDF has conducted airstrikes and ground operations in southern Lebanon.
Zamir emphasized that the IDF's mission is to ensure the safe return of residents to northern Israel, which has been largely evacuated due to the conflict. 'We will continue to operate as necessary to achieve this goal,' he said.
As of April 30, 2026, the situation remains tense, with no clear end to hostilities in sight. International mediators continue to push for a lasting ceasefire, but both sides have rejected proposals.
