PEKAN: Five individuals, including a nurse, have been remanded to assist in an investigation into the sale and purchase of fake medical certificates (MC). The remand order against the suspects, aged 33 to 55, was issued by Magistrate Melody Woon Sze Mun at the Pekan Magistrate's Court on June 16, 2026.
The suspects are being held for four days until June 19 to facilitate investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. According to sources, the nurse is suspected of issuing fake MCs to patients without proper medical consultation.
The case came to light after a tip-off from the public, leading to a raid by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Health Ministry. Authorities are investigating whether the syndicate had been operating for an extended period and the extent of the fake MCs distributed.
MACC officials confirmed that the suspects were arrested on June 15 in several locations around Pekan. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are not ruled out.
