Météo France has issued warnings for a significant heatwave expected to affect much of France from May 24 to May 26, 2026. Forecasts indicate that temperatures could reach or exceed 35°C in several regions, potentially breaking monthly records for May.
The highest temperatures are predicted in the southwest and Rhône Valley, where thermometers could hit 38°C. This would surpass the previous May record of 36.2°C set in Bordeaux in 1922, according to Météo France data.
Authorities have urged vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those with respiratory conditions, to take precautions. The heatwave is attributed to a high-pressure system drawing hot air from North Africa.
Local governments have activated heatwave plans, opening cooling centers and extending park hours. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat, and check on neighbors.
