Morocco's Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level heatwave alert for 10 provinces, effective from Saturday, May 23, to Tuesday, May 26, 2026. The alert warns of temperatures reaching up to 44°C in the southern regions.
The affected provinces include Tata, Assa-Zag, Zagora, Errachidia, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Figuig, Jerada, Taourirt, and Guercif. The DGM advises residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, especially during peak hours.
This heatwave follows a similar event in late June 2025, when temperatures soared across the country. The current alert emphasizes the need for hydration and avoiding direct sun exposure.
