Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Lagos State, securing 657,917 votes. The primary, held on May 22, 2026, positions Hamzat as the party's candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The results were announced at the collation centre by the chairman of the electoral committee, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Hamzat's closest rival, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat (a different candidate), received 2,300 votes, while other aspirants trailed significantly.
Hamzat, 61, has served as deputy governor since 2019 and is a former commissioner for works and infrastructure. His candidacy is seen as a continuation of the Sanwo-Olu administration's policies.
The primary was largely peaceful, with delegates from all 20 local government areas participating. Hamzat thanked party members and pledged to build on the achievements of the current administration.
