The South Ethiopia Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Associations has entered into a cooperation framework with a Brussels-based business network, aiming to strengthen trade and investment links between Ethiopia and Belgium through structured institutional engagement.
The agreement, signed on May 19, 2026, focuses on facilitating market access for Ethiopian products in Belgium and the European Union, while encouraging Belgian investment in Ethiopia's key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and renewable energy. The partnership includes joint trade missions, business matchmaking events, and knowledge exchange programs.
According to the Chamber's president, the initiative is expected to create new opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises in South Ethiopia, particularly in the coffee, textile, and horticulture value chains. The Brussels network, which represents over 200 companies active in Africa, will provide logistical and advisory support.
No specific financial targets or timelines have been disclosed. The cooperation is part of Ethiopia's broader strategy to diversify its export markets and attract foreign direct investment, especially from European partners.
