KINSHASA – The Democratic Republic of the Congo's Health Minister announced Friday that confirmed cases of Ebola in the country have risen to 933, including 245 deaths. The announcement was made during a press briefing in Ituri province, where the first cases of the current outbreak were reported.
According to the World Health Organization, the outbreak began in late 2025 and has primarily affected the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri. The current figures represent a significant increase from the 800 cases reported two weeks ago.
Health authorities have deployed response teams to affected areas, including vaccination campaigns and contact tracing. The WHO has warned that the outbreak remains a serious public health concern, with the potential for further spread if containment measures are not strengthened.
The DRC has experienced multiple Ebola outbreaks in the past decade, with the largest occurring in 2018-2020, which resulted in over 3,400 cases and 2,200 deaths. The current outbreak is the third largest in the country's history.
