The World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Friday that 75 healthcare workers have been infected with Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) since the current outbreak began in May 2026. Speaking via video link from Geneva, a senior WHO official confirmed that health workers were among the first cases.
According to WHO data, 31 of the infected medics have died, highlighting the high risk faced by frontline responders. The outbreak, which started in early May, has spread to several health zones in North Kivu province.
WHO has deployed additional teams to support contact tracing and vaccination efforts. The agency emphasized the need for protective equipment and training to prevent further infections among health staff.
