On Wednesday, Austria praised Morocco's ongoing reforms and its efforts in South-South cooperation, while calling for a strengthened strategic partnership between the European Union and Africa, according to a statement from the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
The statement, issued after a meeting between Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, highlighted Vienna's recognition of Morocco's progress under King Mohammed VI. Schallenberg specifically noted Morocco's role as a key partner for Europe in addressing regional challenges, including migration and security.
Both ministers emphasized the need to deepen economic ties and promote stability in the Sahel region. The meeting also touched on the Western Sahara issue, with Austria reiterating its support for a UN-led political process.
Morocco has pursued a series of political and economic reforms in recent years, including constitutional changes and efforts to boost foreign investment. The country has also positioned itself as a bridge between Europe and Africa, hosting the EU-Africa summit in 2022.
