Anchanto, a Singapore-based e-commerce and logistics technology company, released a new global study titled "The Omnichannel Execution Gap," which reveals a significant disconnect between retailers' confidence in their omnichannel capabilities and their actual operational maturity. The study, conducted across multiple markets, surveyed executives and operations leaders to assess their readiness for seamless omnichannel execution.
Key findings indicate that while a majority of retailers express high confidence in their ability to manage inventory, order fulfillment, and returns across channels, their operational metrics tell a different story. For instance, many companies still rely on manual processes for inventory synchronization and lack real-time visibility across sales channels, leading to stockouts, overselling, and delayed deliveries.
The study highlights that only a small percentage of retailers have achieved true operational maturity, defined as having integrated systems, automated workflows, and data-driven decision-making. The gap is particularly pronounced in areas such as order routing, warehouse management, and last-mile delivery, where legacy systems and siloed data hinder performance.
Anchanto's report suggests that closing this gap requires investment in modern technology, such as cloud-based order management systems (OMS) and warehouse management systems (WMS), as well as a shift toward a more agile, customer-centric operating model. The company emphasizes that operational maturity is not just about technology but also about organizational alignment and continuous improvement.
