Air New Zealand has announced a delay in the delivery of two of its 10 new Boeing 787 Dreamliners, as part of a long-awaited strategy reset. The airline also plans to enhance its premium offerings and improve on-time performance, according to a statement released on June 30, 2026.
The first two Dreamliners, originally scheduled for delivery in 2025, are now expected in 2026, with the remaining eight arriving by 2028. The delay is attributed to ongoing supply chain issues and production challenges at Boeing.
In addition to the aircraft delay, Air New Zealand will invest in upgrading its premium economy and business class cabins, including new seats and improved in-flight entertainment. The airline also aims to increase its punctuality rate to 85% by 2027, up from the current 78%.
CEO Greg Foran said the strategy reset focuses on long-term sustainability and customer experience. The airline will also expand its network to include more direct flights to Asia and North America.
