CASABLANCA, Morocco — Two U.S. service members are missing in southwestern Morocco after taking part in annual multinational military exercises in the North African country, the United States Africa Command said Wednesday.
The service members were reported missing on May 5, 2026, following a training event near the city of Agadir. Search and rescue operations are underway, involving U.S. and Moroccan personnel.
U.S. Africa Command stated that the cause of the disappearance is under investigation, and no further details have been released to protect operational security. The names of the missing personnel are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The multinational exercises, known as African Lion, are held annually and involve thousands of troops from the U.S., Morocco, and other partner nations. This year's exercises began in late April and are scheduled to run through mid-May.
