The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has formally appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to challenge its disqualification from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The Confederation of African Football (CAF) excluded Senegal from the tournament, citing serious refereeing irregularities during their final qualifying match against an unnamed opponent.

According to verified reports, the appeal was lodged in early March 2026. The FSF argues that CAF's disciplinary decision was procedurally flawed and disproportionate. The case centers on alleged manipulation of the match officials, which CAF stated compromised the integrity of the qualifier.

Legal representatives for Senegal, including lawyer Me Kalukanda Mashata, have stated they possess serious arguments for the appeal. They contend that the sanction does not align with standard disciplinary measures for such incidents. A CAS ruling is expected in the coming months, which will determine if Senegal can participate in the tournament to be held in Morocco.

The outcome of this case is being closely watched, as it could set a significant precedent for how continental governing bodies handle integrity breaches in qualifying competitions. The 2025 AFCON is scheduled to take place in the summer, replacing its traditional winter slot.
