The historic Great Zimbabwe Hotel in Masvingo is undergoing a significant multi-million dollar expansion project. The development, which began in 2025, aims to add 71 new guest rooms and a state-of-the-art conference center to the existing property.

This expansion is strategically timed to enhance the hotel's capacity ahead of the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo, a major international travel trade fair hosted annually by Zimbabwe. The 2026 edition of the expo is scheduled to take place in September 2026 in Bulawayo, not at the hotel itself, but the increased accommodation is expected to support the national event.

Owned by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), the hotel's upgrade is part of broader efforts to boost tourism infrastructure near the Great Zimbabwe National Monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The project is designed to position the hotel as a key hospitality hub for visitors to the region.

While the exact completion date for the expansion has not been publicly finalized, construction is actively underway with the goal of being operational in time for the 2026 tourism season and expo.
