Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has publicly defended the organization's disciplinary processes following the decision to strip Senegal of hosting rights for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The decision, announced by CAF's executive committee, was based on the findings of an inspection report that concluded Senegal's preparations were significantly behind schedule.

In a statement, Motsepe rejected accusations of favoritism, stating that CAF's judicial bodies operate independently. "The decisions taken by the disciplinary board and the appeals board are final and binding," Motsepe said, according to verified reports. He emphasized that the process was governed by CAF's statutes and regulations.

Morocco was subsequently awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 tournament. CAF cited Morocco's existing infrastructure and proven capability to host major events at short notice, as demonstrated when it co-hosted the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The decision has sparked debate across the continent regarding preparation timelines and hosting criteria.

Motsepe acknowledged the disappointment in Senegal but urged a focus on the future, including the upcoming 2027 AFCON hosting bid process. The CAF president's comments aim to reinforce confidence in the organization's governance amid the contentious reallocation of the premier continental football event.
