The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a statement categorically denying a false report circulating online that claimed it had stripped Senegal of its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and awarded it to Morocco. The original, unverified article suggested a "political earthquake" and an open crisis, which CAF refutes as entirely fabricated.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe, in a communication dated March 18, 2026, clarified that the governing body has made no such decision regarding the 2025 tournament's outcome. The official results from the final match, played in 2025, remain unchanged, with Senegal as the reigning champion.

The false report had alleged a rare "on the green carpet" decision, a term for an administrative reversal of a sporting result, which sparked online controversy. CAF has urged media and the public to rely only on official communications from its channels for accurate information regarding competition rulings.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of misinformation in sports journalism. The Senegalese Football Federation has not issued any statement regarding an appeal, as was incorrectly suggested in the initial false report, as no official action by CAF warranted one.
