The UEFA qualification process for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is ongoing. The tournament's expansion to 48 teams means Europe (UEFA) has been allocated 16 spots, an increase from previous editions. The group stage of European qualification concluded in November 2025, with the top two teams from each of the 12 groups securing direct qualification.

Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland did not finish in the top two of their respective groups and therefore missed out on automatic qualification. Their final chance to reach the 2026 World Cup is through the UEFA playoffs, scheduled for March 2026. The playoff participants are the 12 group stage teams that finished third and fourth, plus the four best-ranked group winners from the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League that did not directly qualify or reach the playoffs via their group.

The 16 playoff teams will be drawn into four separate playoff paths, each featuring two single-leg semi-finals and a final. The four path winners will secure the final European spots for the World Cup. The official draw for the playoff paths is set for late 2025 or early 2026, after the conclusion of the Nations League group stage. The exact seeding and opponent difficulty for Wales, Northern Ireland, and Ireland remain unknown until that draw is conducted.
