In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Guterres expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. He reiterated the UN's commitment to supporting Mali in its efforts to restore peace and stability.
The UN chief urged all Malian stakeholders to work together in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. He also called on the international community to enhance support for the country, including through the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
Guterres emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach that addresses both security and development challenges. He noted that sustainable peace in Mali requires addressing root causes such as poverty, inequality, and lack of access to basic services.
