Ukrainian forces recaptured nearly 100 square kilometers more territory than they lost in May, and more than 600 square kilometers since the start of 2026, according to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Syrskyi made the statement in a post on Telegram on June 8, 2026, providing an update on the situation along the front line. He noted that Russian forces continue to focus their main efforts on the Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, and Kupiansk directions.
The Ukrainian military has been conducting defensive operations while also carrying out counterattacks in certain sectors. Syrskyi emphasized that the situation remains challenging but that Ukrainian forces are holding their positions and inflicting losses on the enemy.
This report comes amid ongoing hostilities in eastern Ukraine, where Russian forces have been attempting to advance. The Ukrainian General Staff has not yet commented on the specific figures provided by Syrskyi.
