Two people, including a police officer, were injured in a crash involving an unmarked police vehicle in central Auckland on Sunday night. Police were alerted to the two-vehicle collision on Newton Road, Eden Terrace, at around 8:50 p.m.
Emergency services, including St John Ambulance, responded to the scene. The police officer involved in the crash sustained minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, a civilian, was also injured and transported to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition.
The Serious Crash Unit has been notified and is investigating the circumstances of the incident. Newton Road was closed for several hours while emergency services worked at the scene and an examination was conducted.
Police have stated that the unmarked vehicle was not involved in a pursuit or responding to an emergency call at the time of the crash. No further details about the cause of the collision have been released as the investigation continues.
