The protest, organized by groups demanding that undocumented migrants leave the country by a June 30 deadline, has raised concerns about potential violence. The government is coordinating a multi-agency response to ensure public safety.
Minister Cachalia stated that law enforcement agencies are prepared to maintain order and protect all residents, regardless of nationality. The South African Police Service (SAPS) will deploy additional officers in areas identified as potential flashpoints.
The Defence Minister confirmed that the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) may provide support if requested, in line with constitutional provisions for assisting the police in maintaining law and order.
