According to the 2025 African Industrialization Index (AII) released by the African Development Bank (AfDB), Tunisia is classified among the most industrialized countries on the continent. The index measures countries' performance in manufacturing, infrastructure, and enabling environment.
Tunisia achieved a score of 0.67 out of 1, placing it in the 'high industrialization' tier alongside South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt. The country's strengths include a diversified manufacturing base, strong automotive and electronics sectors, and relatively developed infrastructure.
The AfDB report highlights that Tunisia has maintained its position due to consistent investments in industrial zones and export-oriented policies. However, challenges remain in upgrading technology and improving competitiveness in global value chains.
This ranking underscores Tunisia's role as a manufacturing hub in North Africa, with the industrial sector contributing approximately 23% of its GDP. The index also notes that Tunisia outperforms the continental average in terms of electricity access and logistics.
