US President Donald Trump said Friday that he was 'not satisfied' with a new Iranian negotiating proposal, with peace talks between the two sides frozen despite a weeks-long ceasefire.
Iran delivered the text of the proposal to mediator Pakistan on Thursday, according to Iranian state media. The proposal was then forwarded to Washington. Trump's comment came during a press conference at the White House, where he stated, 'We'll see what happens, but I'm not satisfied with what I've seen so far.'
The ceasefire, brokered by Pakistan in early April, has largely held but has not led to direct negotiations. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said the proposal includes 'new ideas' for de-escalation, but did not provide details. The US has not yet issued a formal response.
Analysts say the impasse reflects deep mistrust between the two countries, which have been at odds over Iran's nuclear program and regional influence. The ceasefire was seen as a rare diplomatic opening after months of heightened tensions.
